By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Sean_Mauger]Sean Mauger The research demonstrated that our leisure and recreation pursuits account for most of our emissions, rather than a lack of insulation or 4x4 cars. What is interesting about this research is that it found that mobile phone chargers, for example, accounted for between 35 and 70kg per person per year. This is obviously exasperated when mobile phones are fully charge but left on to continue to charge?. Lets face it nearly every mobile phone user is guilty of leaving their phone on too charge over night? How much of that 35 to 70 kg is wasted effort is the question, how much could you cut down by charging your mobile until its full and turning off the charger. Or perhaps another option is to buy an in car charger and whilst damaging the environment driving, charge at the same time at no additional cost to your carbon footprint? Now in all honesty my last point is not scientifically proven but I do think there is some logic in this point? Another trend which is developing in the mobile market today, that will be driving the carbon footprint is the trend to own more than one mobile phone? We are now seeing that people have mobile phones for there work and personal use and never the twain shall meet. That means the charging, or indeed over charging of two phones. But smart phones like the o2 XDA or the Nokia N95, are multi purpose phones and offer a great solution but more about that in my next article. How To Ensure Early Bulbs Bloom, Year After Year
By James Kilkelly I often notice when visiting gardens the great quantities of Daffodils and other early bulbs that we plant to herald in the spring. But how do we ensure we have a great display each year? The early flowering bulbs Quite a few seasoned gardeners have had their first horticultural experience by the planting of a few Daffodil or Tulip bulbs, thus spurring them onto more adventurous plantings. At the end of April the very early flowering bulbs will come to the end of their blooming season. This group of early bloomers includes Daffodils, Hyacinths, Bluebells, Crocus, Snowdrops and early Tulips. All these bulbs will flower well for any gardener the first growing season but for them to bloom well the following seasons we must give them some care. Dieback not tieback All bulbs leaves must be allowed a minimum of six weeks after flowering to die down, so if these bulbs are planted in a lawn that area of lawn must remain uncut for six weeks. Refrain from tying your Daffodil leaves in knots to neaten their appearance, also avoid folding them over and securing with rubber bands. If the bulbs leaves are naturally allowed to die back then they will take in the energy for next years flowering. I would also recommend nipping off the spent flower heads on bulbs once flowering is finished, this will prevent the bulb using vital energy for seed production instead using all that energy to bulk up its food store for next season. Don't forget to feed The final tip for blooming bulbs next spring is to feed your bulbs, this is especially important if you have a hungry soil. Apply a foliar feed to the fully emerged leaves before the blooms start to form. Choose a general purpose purpose liquid feed.I would also advise you to feed your bulbs just as the blooms have faded with a granular bulb fertiliser applied around the bulbs base. This is the most important feed they will receive. Ensure this feed has a higher potassium or potash content than nitrogen content. Apply according to the manufacturers instructions and heed safety warnings. James Kilkelly runs a professional garden design service in Galway, Ireland. Online Greeting Cards
By Dominic Ferrara The first time I saw online greeting cards I thought they were the coolest things ever. Surely no one can top that! Of course that was silly, as there are a million amazing things to be found on the Internet today, and it just keeps getting better. Im of the generation that lived without the Internet, and then discovered it as it appeared. You might call that a line in history, because the Internet has become so important for so many reasons. One of the biggest things I love about the Internet is the ability to make friends all over the world. I was never good about buying cards for people when there was a birthday or celebration coming up. Im not sure why, it is just something that seemed to always slip my mind, even when I was staring at them in the store. Online greeting cards have made it easier for a slacker like me to keep on top of things when I have forgotten to buy a paper card. They are instant, and you never have to worry about an online greeting card getting lost in the mail. You can find online greeting cards for every occasion you can imagine, and many for occasions you could have never dreamed up on your own. I get an email once a week from one place where I go to send a lot of online greeting cards, and there seems to be a special occasion every day of the year. Its amazing what people can come up with, dont you think? If you can dream it up, there is probably already a card out there for it. Best of all, there are cards to fit every personality, lifestyle, and interest. The sky is the limit. I dont use online greeting cards for most of those silly days, but once in a while I see a card that I just cant pass up. There is always a friend out there who may need a pick me up, and a silly online greeting card may be just what they need to put a smile on their face. Dont forget to let those you love know how much you mean to them, and never let an opportunity to say hello pass you by. You never know when you wont have the chance again. Online greeting cards make it easier than ever to do just that. Collecting Vintage American Folding Knives
By Glyn Farber Folding knives, also known as folders or pocket knives are the most popular of all the different types of knives collected today. There was a time when every man and young boy for that matter carried a pocket knife. Within the folding knife category there are many special types and manufacturers. Most American collectors are interested mainly in knives mass produced for practical use in the United States. One of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States is John Russell who opened a factory on the Green River near Deerfield, MA in 1830. Among the most notable knives of American manufacture, in addition to John Russell, are several known as Case. There were several because a whole family of Cases were making knives and they were rivals. The first Case firm was known as Case Brothers Cutlery Company, which was founded in 1896 in Little Valley, NY by the three younger sons of Job Case. John, Jean and Andrew made their "Tested XX" knife famous. However, they were later overwhelmed by Russell Case, a son of their oldest brother, who worked for John, Jean and Andrew as a salesman. Russell quit after an argument over money and started a company named after his father, W.R. Case and Son. Vintage knives made by any of the Cases are very sought-after. Collectors of American folding knives also look for knives made by the Winchester and Remington gun companies. They started making knives after WW1. Other popular brands include Buck, Camillus, Colonial, Ka-Bar and Schrade. Novelty knives and advertising knives were very popular in the 1920s and 1930s. Many large companies such as Coca Cola gave away many advertising knives made by some of the companies mentioned above. Collecting vintage folding knives can be a fun, educational, rewarding and sometimes a profitable hobby. The best place to buy or sell vintage knives is eBay. Glyn Farber has published a catalog of all known Hickey Brother Cigar Store Tokens and co-authored a book about Louisiana Trade Tokens. In addition he wrote several articles for The Token and Medal Society (TAMS) and The National Token Collectors Association (NTCA). Glyn has been a devoted collector of Louisiana Trade Tokens, Louisiana collectibles and Lake Charles, LA postcards for almost 40 years. White Sun (Tinted Glasses)
By Teow Aun Chew Once there was a very famous pianist who had won many musical awards. He had mastered his craft to the utmost level, thus many people wished to be his students. One day another pianist paid him a visit and said, "I wish to continue my learning with you and I have been playing piano for three years. Can you tell me how long will it take for me to complete with you?" The famous pianist said, "It will take six years." The other pianist then asked again, "How long will it take if I have no foundation at all in playing the piano to learn to play to the same level like you?" The famous pianist said, "Three years." Greatly puzzled, the other pianist said, "This does not make sense to me." The master pianist then said, "I need to spend the first three years to help you unlearn all the things that you have learned before. Then another three years to teach you the proper way to play the instrument. In contrast, those who do not have any foundation are like a piece of white paper on which I can imprint whatever I want." The moral of this story is very important, on the other hand it does not imply that we should not attempt to learn anything at all nor should we discredit all the knowledge that we have acquired. The message is that we should not let things that we have learned become the stumbling blocks for our progress. When we come into contact with any matters, we should keep an open mind and not approach the subject matter with only our preconception and biases. Unfortunately people tend to criticize or reject immediately when suggestions or ideas made by others are not in line with theirs. We should put our preconceived notions aside temporary to listen to what others have to say and analyze them judiciously before deciding whether to adopt or reject them. Anything genuinely good should be considered for adoption and if in doubt, we can simply treat them as references so that we will be able to understand another person better at the same time it can be to our own benefit. Viewing the world with preconceptions and prejudices is analogous to looking through a pair of tinted glasses. We will never be able to see the true color unless we take off the tinted glasses. This is especially true in spiritual cultivation. It is easier to guide a young and innocent devotee than an older devotee who had gone through years of spiritual practice with his own preconception of what is right and what is false. Unfortunately everyone claims his path is the highest path and he is the luckiest person in the world to be in his path. Just like the famous pianist to firstly help the other pianist to unlearn all the things that he had learned before. This is a true story about Bodhidharma (Great Indian Master) and Shinkuan (Great Chinese Master in China). Bodhidharma while in India was directed by his master Arya Prajnatara in India to search for the right person in China to continue the lineage of Tao. In China he found Shinkuan and knew that Shinkuan was the potential successor. Shinkuan had been teaching classic scripture for forty-nine years when he met Bodhidharma. While Shinkuan was teaching the scripture, Bodhidharma asked him, "Where is the scripture and where is the dharma?" Shinkuan said, "Scripture and dharma are both on paper." Bodhidharma said, "Words are in black and papers are in white. Where is the dharma? If you said you have the dharma, let me draw a cake on paper to satisfy your hunger." Shinkuan asked, "How can a paper cake fill the hunger?" Bodhidharma said, "Since the paper cake cant eliminate hunger, how can your dharma on paper be able to transcend life and death?" Shinkuan replied, "I have preached the scripture and dharma to help countless people, how can you say that this is useless. You have shown contempt of Buddhist teaching and it is a crime. My teaching is the Tao of all dharma which belongs to the oneness." Bodhidharma said, "You are the one really who is disrespectful of the Buddhist teaching. If all dharma belongs to the oneness, where does the oneness belong to?" Shinkuan was not able to answer and with anger and embarrassment, he threw the iron prayer beads in his hand towards Bodhidharma and knocked loose two of his teeth. Bodhidharma left and wanted to avoid him but he was concerned about the lineage of Tao. Then he pulled out ten prayer beads and transformed them into Ten Judges of the Dead who appeared before Shinkuan. Shinkuan saw them and asked, "Who are you holy ones?" They answered, "We are the Ten Judges of Hell come to arrest your soul because you have lived up to your years on earth." Shinkuan answered frightfully, "I have been preaching for forty-nine years and have accumulated infinite merit and virtue. How is it possible that I still cannot avoid the judgement from Hell?" The judges said, "Without receiving the true Tao, how else can you avoid the judgement." Shinkuan asked, "Who has the true dharma?" The judges said, "The monk who came to you the day before yesterday was a true Buddha from the West who is able to initiate the true transmission of Tao." With deep regret for missing the opportunity to receive Tao, Shinkuan kneeled down and begged the judges to let him live so that he would go after Bodhidharma for him to receive the great dharma, and he would not forget their great mercy. Shinkuan then went to the mountain and saw Bodhidharma quietly sitting in a cave. He immediately kneeled down and asked for his forgiveness. After one day and night, the snow had risen to his waist. Bodhidharma said with pity, "In order to receive the true Tao, one must cut off all deviant paths." The great Indian master Bodhidharma implied that Shinkuan must put aside all he had learned so that the true Tao can be transmitted to him. The wordless heart teaching was then transmitted to Shinkuan and his name became Huiku, one of the sixty-four Patriarchs in the lineage of Tao. Author: T.A Chew T.A Chew realized that it is much easier to change a younger and innocent devotee than an older one who had already cultivated other spiritual path seriously. But for those with affinity with Tao, it is just natural for them to see clearly. The Cleansing and Weight Loss Benefits of a High Fiber Diet
By Brenda Watson, N.D., C.N.C In addition to its beneficial role in disease prevention and healthy weight management, fiber also helps support the bodys natural cleansing and detoxification processes. Many experts recommend eating between 25 to 35 grams or even more of fiber each day to maintain your health, so it is important to understand the two specific types of fiber and how they work. Both soluble fiber and insoluble fiber help purge unwanted toxins from the body. Soluble fiber (found in fruit, beans, oats, legumes and nuts) dissolves in water and leaves the digestive tract slowly. As it moves through the intestines it works like a sponge, soaking up toxins and capturing them in order to prevent their reabsorption into the bloodstream. Insoluble fiber (found in wheat bran, dried beans, whole grains and seeds) is not water-soluble; it passes through the digestive tract virtually intact. During its journey through the intestines it helps to sweep the colon free of debris by removing toxins from the intestinal wall. It also tones the bowel muscles by creating resistance and giving them something to push against, thus promoting peristalsis (the wave-like motions that move food through your intestines). Peristalsis is necessary for healthy elimination, and healthy elimination is an important step in ridding toxins from the body. But just how do those toxins enter in the first place? The buildup of toxins in your body is the result of both external and internal toxins. External toxins such as pesticides and pollutants come from our surrounding environment. They seep into the earth, water and air and can cause severe health problems. Internal toxins, however, come from within. They are the waste products that result from everyday physiological processes such as energy production and digestion. Since many people do not digest protein, starches and fats efficiently, they overproduce internal toxins. The body absorbs both the internal and external toxins and circulates both to the liver. Along the way they can be deposited in the organs and tissues, which can cause inflammation and lead to poor health. Because fiber is a powerful ally in your battle against toxinsabsorbing the toxins that come from the liver and gallbladder to the gut (as well as cholesterol, estrogen and old red blood cells)it is essential to get plenty of fiber in your diet. Consuming a ratio of about 65% insoluble fiber to 35% soluble fiber is ideal, as it reflects the natural balance found in whole foods. The best way to provide a balance of soluble and insoluble fiber is to eat a variety of fiber-rich foods. Legumes and unrefined grains such as oats, brown rice and whole wheat are excellent sources of mixed fibers. Among fruits, apples, avocados, oranges, bananas, grapefruit and berries provide the most fiber per serving, and high-fiber vegetables include spinach, endive, broccoli, carrots and cauliflower. She is the president of ReNew Life Formulas and the founder of five natural healthcare clinics specializing in internal cleansing, detoxification and free weight loss advice. Create A Business Card That Sells and is Effective
By Thomson Chemmanoor Why does your business need a business card? Business card is a powerful piece of card handed out to your clients or given to you by someone which has all that information in such a small space. Business cards are an important part of any business and that gives a first impression of your business to anyone. So customize the card in such a way to make a good impression about it to others. Create a business card that conveys a sense that you are by your name, name of the business, description of your business and other contact information so that they remember you. Design steps of a effective business card:-
First of all you should be aware of what would you like to have on the business card to convey others about you. You want to focus on the identity of your business right. So you need your name, business logo, email ID, web & postal address and finally the telephone no on it. Second step is the look of the card Go around with the cards in your collection which was handed over to you by your friends, relative, clients even strangers and have a good idea which impress you the most. I dont say to clone it or borrow their idea but keep in mind which one stand out and which concept will suit you best. The third and final step is the style once you got an idea what you want. Work on the style of your business card for example if you are running a funeral home and having flashy picture on your card it wont convey a good impression. The basic example is to have a simple designed one with information about you and your business is clear and prominent. Your business card should have the same color and design of what you have on your other marketing materials like, brochure, stationery website. Utilize the space of your card cleverly and display your information which is essential and not any unwanted information which send out a wrong message. A business card can do more than to improve your business it can also serve as a reminder of an appointment also a direction to your work place. So the key to a successful business card design is sensible design and what you convey on the card. Secrets Of Organic Rose Plant Gardening
By Charles Farricielli How Nature Works Whether it is roses, other flower gardening, or just about any type of plant, the secret to successful organic gardening of any kind is to understand the way nature works. Nature always tries to maintain a delicate balance. By understanding the basics of how plants grow, you will understand how to maintain natures balance and thus keep your roses healthy.
Basically, water and nutrients are absorbed into the root system and pulled up through the stems into the green leaves by the process of photosynthesis.
Photosynthesis is a plant process that uses water and energy from the sun to convert carbon dioxide into carbohydrates that it uses for growth and other plant functions.
The carbohydrates are stored in the branches and stems of roses, trees, and other plants. These stored carbohydrates are used as reserve energy for the plant. When a crises occurs, such as a broken stem or pathogenic attack, the stored carbohydrates are used. Stored carbohydrates are also used in the spring to create new stems and foliage.
A natural soil environment teems with bacteria, fungi, nematodes, earthworms, and other soil organisms. Many of these soil organisms break down dead leaves and other materials into humus, which enriches the soil. Other soil organisms form symbiotic relationships with roses and other plants. A symbiotic relationship is a relationship that is beneficial to all participants in the relationship. Mycorrhizal fungus creates an important symbiotic relation with roses and other plants. Mycorrhiza attaches itself to the roots of your roses and other plants. It uses some of the carbohydrates stored by your plants to grow, but helps your roses and other plants by making minerals more available. In a healthy soil environment, the mycorrhizae attached to one of your roses will grow and become interconnected to the mycorrhizae of other roses and plants. In effect, it provides a secondary root system for your garden plants.
Roses and other plants also release exudates from their roots that attract beneficial organisms. As an example, exudates from rose roots attract friendly bacterium that ward off pathogenic fungi.
Beneficial soil organisms, which are found in natural humus and compost, also make minerals more available to your roses and other plants. Beneficial soil organisms also help protect roses and other plants from predatory life forms. Another important thing to understand is that plants of all kinds are a little bit like humanssome get along very well and some dont. Some plants grow well together and actually help each other survive. Other plants inhibit neighboring plants. Plants that grow well together are referred to as companion plants. Companion plants are an important factor in any garden. We will talk more about them later. Organic growers recognize that pathogenic attacks are an indication that the plant or plants are out of balance. Organic growers know that pathogens cant get a foothold on a healthy plant.
Commonly used chemical fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides destroy soil organisms and throw roses, flowers, and other plants out of balance. The imbalance created by these chemicals attracts pathogens. Our meddling also creates havoc in roses and other plants. Over-pruning reduces carbohydrate storage, throws the plant out of balance, and often opens the door to pathogens. Hybridization often creates weaker plants. The practice of grafting rose stems onto a different root stock often creates roses that are susceptible to pathogenic attacks. Creating Your Own Rose Garden
If you want to plant a rose garden that consists of two or three roses, or a whole bunch of roses, you need to begin planning.
The first thing to do is to think about where you want to plant your roses and what colors you might like. Be sure to consider the other colors in your yard, as well as your house, walkways, etc. Roses grow best with a minimum of six hours of full sun, although some varieties can tolerate a bit more shade. Your shade/full sun areas will affect your possible rose garden locations.
The next thing to do is to find out what roses grow well in your climate.
Look at rose gardens in your local area to see what roses seem to grow well and how much you like them. Ask nursery experts what roses grow well in your area. Another good source is your local rose club. This will give you a good idea of the colors, sizes, and other characteristics that will grow well in your area. Companion Plants
Once you have decided on the roses you like, you need to learn about companion plants. Roses really do love garlic, as well as other plants of the onion family. Onions are of the order Asparaginales and family Alliaceae. The onion family is made up of 500 species.
Although planting garlic in your rose garden will help protect your roses, there are many other onion varieties that will protect your roses and also provide beautiful flowers to enhance your roses. Marigolds, mignonettes, and thyme are also good companions for roses.
When you are deciding on companion plants for roses, check to see when they bloom. Other characteristics, such as texture and height, should also be
considered before deciding on your companion plants.
An excellent book on companion planting is Roses Love Garlic by Louise Riotte. Here's an interesting link about companion planting. Choosing Your Plants
Choose hardy roses. Generally, old varieties of roses are the hardiest. Try to pick roses that havent been grafted onto a different root stock. Choose the colors you like. Bare-root roses are less expensive than potted roses, but potted roses are easier to plant and more likely to survive
Choose flowers from the onion family, or other companion families that will complement your roses. Once you have chosen your colors and plants, and have decided how to arrange them and what your rose garden will look like, you can dig in and begin working with your soil. Soil
Soil is the key to healthy and beautiful roses. Dig into your rose plot in several places to see what the soil it is like. Soil is seldom perfect. It may have too much clay, too much sand, tons of rocks, or any of a dozen different problems. pH is also important.
You should test your soil pH. pH kits are available at nurseries and over the internet. A good pH test kit is worth the expense because inexpensive ones are often inaccurate. Most roses grow well with a soil pH of 5.5 to 7, although a pH of 6.5 is ideal. pH is a measure of acid-base balance and uses a scale of 1 to 14. 1 is extremely acid; 7 is neutral; and 14 is extremely basic (alkaline). Few flowers will grow in a pH that is too acid or too alkaline.
A pH of 6.5 is the point where nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium, plus trace minerals, are most easily available to your flowers. Arid regions tend to have alkaline soils and regions with heavy rainfall tend to have acidic soils. How Much To Water Roses
Roses like a lot of water during the growing and blooming season. But this doesn't mean give them a small amount every day. Like with watering other plants, it is better to water deeply rather than just a little bit at a time, so that the water can fully penetrate the roots. Just sprinkling them with the hose is not enough.
Let the hose give your roses a full, thorough soaking. A good four or five gallons worth of water per rose bush is a basic rule of thumb. Depending on how much rain your garden gets, a deep watering once a week is usually enough even in drier parts of the country. If it is extremely hot and dry, perhaps every four days or so.
Avoid watering during the heat of the day in direct sunlight. Early morning and late afternoon are the best times to water. The Magic of Humus
If your soil is out of the correct pH range, you can change it. This is where the magic of soil biology creates miracles. Humus is the magic formula for most soil problems. Humus, which you can create by composting with compost bins, will help improve your soil pH. It will also improve soil that is too sandy, has too much clay, or has other problems.
If your soil is extremely acid, which can happen in an area with heavy rainfall, or soil that has had overdoses of chemical N-P-K fertilizer, you may need to add limestone to sweeten the soil.
For most other soil problems, humus is the answer. You may not have humus available. If that is the case, dont worry. We will discuss how mulching can help your roses. For more information on composting, see the Composting Guide.
You can create compost with plant clippings and other yard debris, rather than throwing them away. They will provide you with a continuous supply of humus in the future.
You should be careful if you decide to purchase compost. Many compost products are not fully composted and are still too hot for your garden.
Organic fertilizers should be added during the growing cycle. You can even find special organic rose fertilizer that is designed specifically with rose gardening in mind. Planting Roses
It is best to plant your roses between spring and early summer so that they have time to develop a root system before winter sets in.
Roses dont like to be crowded, so give them enough room. Hybrid teas, grand floras, and floribundas should be planted 18 to 30 inches apart.
Climbers should be planted 8 to 12 feet apart. Miniatures can be planted approximately 12 to 15 inches apart. If you have container roses, make sure they have been watered and keep them wet while working. Dig holes for your roses that are 2 times the size of the root ball. It is a good idea to put some well composted organic matter in the bottom of the hole. Mix more composted matter with the soil that you removed, but are planning to put back in the hole.
If you dont have composted matter available, you can substitute a good quality planting mix. It is best to use planting mix that doesnt contain chemical fertilizers, although it is sometimes difficult to find. Take the rose plant out of the container and put the rose plant in the hole.
Pack the prepared dirt under and around the rose, making sure that the dirt on the top of the rose root-ball is level with the ground. It is a good idea to put a straight stick across the hole to make sure the dirt level of the rose is the same as the ground level. If your rose is planted above or below ground level, it may have a difficult time growing properly.
Planting bare-root roses is the same process, except that you must gently pack the dirt around the roots. If you have a grafted rose, you need to make sure that the graft union is a little bit below ground level. Purchasing organic rose fertilizer will insure that you have fertilizer to add during the growing season, if you don't already have it on hand at home. Mulch
Mulching will help your roses after they are planted. Mulching is the practice of adding plant material, such as leaves, dead grass, or shredded bark on top of the soil. The plant material will eventually be broken down and pulled into the soil by soil denizens. It will become humus. Mulching also helps to retain moisture in the soil. In a natural environment, leaves fall to the ground and stay there. They act as mulch Pruning
You will not need to prune your roses until next season. It is best to prune just before the early spring growth appears, which is March in most areas.
You can check with your local nurseries to find out what is the best time in your area.
If you are unfamiliar with pruning, it is best to watch a demonstration.
There are many articles and books that explain how to prune, but a demonstration is worth ten thousand words. Do-it-yourself television shows often give demonstrations. Nurseries and rose clubs also sometimes give demonstrations.
Once you see a demonstration, you will feel much more comfortable with the idea of pruning. Deadheading
If you have planted repeat-flowering roses, your rose bushes will bloom more bountifully when you remove the spent blooms. This is called deadheading. Tips
Hybrid tea roses or grand floras are best for classical long stem roses, but floribundas, shrubs, or climbing roses are a better choice if you want your rose garden to bloom continually.
Climbers on a trellis can create an amazing display of color or hide an unsightly shed.
Roses need well-drained soil. If you have clay, or other soil that doesnt drain, you may have to create a drain line or plant your roses in a raised bed.
Dont forget mulch. Mulching around your roses and other plants will make them very happy and reduce pathogen problems.
Purchase hardy roses that are resistant to infestation. These are often the older varieties. You will also find that sturdy varieties vary from region to region. Check with local organic gardening associations to find out what works best in your specific area and under your specific conditions.
Instead of planting your roses in even rows, you can stagger them. By staggering them, you get more roses in a small space without crowing them. Many people are now getting into growing all things organic. Farmers are doing it with produce and meats, so it is natural that you might want to grow your roses that way also. Many people have problems using the pesticides and insecticides that go along with growing roses and keeping them healthy. Well, now you can use more natural methods of growing your roses. I will show you how in step by step detail.
1. Each bush that you want to plant will need to have a foot of space all around it so that the flowers can get the proper amount of circulation. It also helps to prevent leaf diseases for your roses.
2. You will want to purchase organic roses. You will want to buy roses that have a sturdy green stem and no blemishes on them. Bare root roses are best for this.
3. Along with roses that have green stems, you will need to look for stems that have evenly spaced leaves that are close together.
4. You will need to use well drained soil so that you can promote the healthy growth that will give the flower all of the water and nutrients that it needs from the root to the flower's head.
5. Fix the soil so that you can build organically. You should use a raised bead if drainage is a constant problem. Ask your local garden center rep about how best to fix your soil to be organically correct.
6. Soak your bare root roses in a large container of composte tea for many hours before you plant them.
7. You must mound up enough good organic sol that is mixed with an equal amount of composte in the middle so that you can spread the roots out and down from where they meet at the trunk.
8. Now, plant the rose at the point where the stem breaks into the root so that it is at soil level, or approximately 1 inch below the top level if you live in an area that is prone to hard winters.
9. You have to check your bare root roses first. If your roots grow out in a tight circle, you have to cut a straight slice down each of its four sides. A knife is good for this. Then you will dig a hole that is 2 inches deeper than the container and at least twice as wide.
10. Mix your organic soil garden soil with an equal amount of composted and use your hands to gently spread the roots into the soil mix.
11. You have to mulch to help you prevent your roses from being exposed to weeds, and water stress complications. It will also ensure that your roses remain at their lowest possible maintenance level.
12. You must feed your roses organically also. Fertilize with organic fertilizer and maintain a regular watering schedule.
13. Water your organic roses deep at the planting, and then once every week after that during growing season so that you can promote deep roots. Watering in the early morning is best.
14. You must cultivate the top inch of your soil around each of your roses and fertilize on a monthly basis with a balanced organic fertilizer. You will need a good granular type of fertilizer that you can work into the soil. Either that, or you can use a fish emulsion or seaweed based product that you can mix with water because it has all of the necessary nutrients that a healthy flower needs. Check the ingredients listed on the labels to ensure that they have nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, iron and calcium.
15. To help protect your bed against the various types of pests and insects that can plague your roses, put sticky yellow bars every ten feet to catch them.
16. You may use an organic pesticide if the problem is bad.
17. If your pest problem is severe enough, you may use insecticidal soap to spray over your roses.
Now you have all of the necessary knowledge that you need to grow your own bed of earth friendly roses. Your flowers will be just as beautiful as those that are not grown organically, and will likely have the healthiest life span that a rose can get. Organic roses have some of the best color and "immune systems" that a rose can have. The fragrance of them can't be beaten. CALENDAR OF ROSE CARE SPRING Fertilize with blood and bone, up to 1 kg per bush, depending on soil fertility, mixed with 100g of sulphate of potash per bush, potash improves disease resistance (dont use muriate of potash, it has a harmful effect on beneficial soil organisms). Apply a good mulch of well-rotted compost and lucerne hay. Spray new foliage in the afternoon with seaweed, repeat every 10-14 days SUMMER Fertilize repeat bloomers in mid to late summer Fertilize again with 100g of sulphate of potash per bush AUTUMN In the subtropics, hybrid tea and floribundas should be hard-pruned in February, this gives the plant a rest and stops flowering in the heat and humidity of the wet season, when flowers will just collapse anyway. Remove all rose prunings as they can harbor disease. The plant should be ready to flower again by late March, when it is cooler. Roses often flower well from March to July, remove spent blooms on a regular basis. Fertilize again with blood and bone and 100g of sulphate of potash per bush

Learning From Depression
By Michele Rogers Learning from depression has to be about the hardest thing to do. As said depression you can not focus on yourself or others. It is a large hole to dig one self out of. Yet we all have moments when we are so overwhelmed and we still manage to get above the clouds and see the light of day. In having a list that will aid you in your quest for happiness is the best way to deal with a depressive situation. Write down what makes you happy, be it hobbies to a musical instrument. The list has no guidelines its a list of what ever makes you happy and feel good. Next learn to practice your happy list. In doing this if you like knitting and it makes you happy then every time you have a moment that is overwhelming then pick up those knitting needles and knit away. How Well Do You Know Your Clients?
By Mike Yates How Well do You Know Your Clients? Many people new to business often make the classic mistake of creating a product or service out of their personal passion (or talent) then try to sell their product or service into the marketplace without fully understanding the intended customers needs and desires. In other words - they make guesstimate' assumptions and then jump into business. Their belief being (more often than not) I like it so you will like it as well'. This then leaves them confused when the business they are running is just not working at all after repeated different attempts to get it to fly (or there simply isn't enough business coming through the door to support their dream). The danger then is to fall into the trap of working harder and harder (longer and longer hours) whilst also finding fault with everything that doesn't work. This ultimately leads to a serious work / life imbalance, and ultimately stress and illness. So what's a solution? Focus your thoughts on becoming a hyper-critical thinker. Allow time out every day to ask yourself what you are doing, how you are doing it, who you are doing it for and also (probably most importantly), why they will care. Many people think of the How' before they think Who', Why', Where' and What'... If you are not seeing consistent growth within your business, then take a look at the level of attention you are paying to one (or all) of the following: Gaining increased sales from your existing clients and databaseMaximising the profitability from your existing sales (upselling)Getting new clients through the doorUnderstanding precisely who your customers are is critical to building any business. Try asking yourself the following questions... If you don't know the answers yet, make a commitment with yourself to find the resources to get them - maybe via a library, through other business owners (even researching what your competition does well - you may be surprised what you'll learn), or employ a professional business coach. Ask yourself these questions: Get Critical! Who are my clients? What's their age? Where do they shop? Learn as much as you can about themWhy do they need my product / service? How will they know when they need it?How will they find out where to obtain it?What experience will they have when they discover it?What will the experience be like when they purchase? Set Priorities To Lose Weight
By Tracie Johanson Id like you to ask you a question that you probably havent considered for quite some time: Whats important to you? Is it your family, your health, friendships, your integrity, your career, your faith or the amount you have in the bank? Whats important to you..really important? Take a few minutes to carefully think about your answer. You might even want to write down the top five things that are important to you. For many of us, this is a question we rarely (if ever) consciously ponder. Yet, every single day of our lives we are asked that same question just not in so many words. Its also true that every single day we answer that question. We answer not with our words, but with our actions. What we do every day tells us what we really think is important. To get an unclouded and transparent snapshot of what we hold to be true priorities, all we have to do is examine how we use our time, how we give our attention, and where we commit our resources. If you took the time to write down the top five priorities in your life, go back to that list now and really honestly think about how much time you devoted to each of those last week. Be honest! Nobody will see these answers but you. What many people find when they complete this exercise is that they are actually spending very little time on whats important to them. Did you list friendships as one of your life priorities, only to realize that you havent spoken with your best friends for weeks? Perhaps you consider family to be a valuable priority, yet you canceled the family vacation again this year due to work issues. Or, like most people, maybe you listed good health as a top priority in your life. Yet you havent made the time to exercise for days, weeks, months or even years. Later in life, when stricken with a dangerous and deadly disease, people often say "I'd give every dollar I have if I could just get my health back." By contrast, no one ever says, "I'd give up my health if I could just get a few more bucks." No one ever says that, but a lot of people live as though they believe it. Its time for a moment of truth: are your priorities what you thought they were? Does how you spend your time match up with what you listed as life priorities? After going through this process, most people realize that they are spending far too little time on one of their top priorities: their health. Look carefully at the actions you have taken in the past regarding your health, and then look at the results. Does your reality parallel your priority list? Success in health, fitness and weight loss will not come from a priority list or what we think wed like to achieve, but only from what we actually do day in and day out. The actions we took yesterday led us to where we are today, just as the actions we take today will determine where we end up tomorrow. Take out that list of life priorities again and tape it up on the bathroom mirror for the next few weeks. Each morning youll be reminded of whats truly important to you, and youll have the chance to organize your day so that you spend time on whats important. At this point in time, right NOW, your life is a clear picture of what has been important to you in the past of what you have been committed to accomplishing. With that fact in mind, ask yourself one final question: whats important to you now? * Copyright 2005 Pick Up The Pace. Palliative Care : Nurses Speak Hope When Hope Seems Lost
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Edward_Harper] Edward Harper Any Family dealing with the loss of a loved one is usually involved in the Medical Community. The ones wit the most frequent and closest care are the nurses. The nurse is there working closely with the client assess their needs as well as the families needs. Family and dear friends are coping with the many physical and emotional demands of the dying or palliative patient. It is a heavy burden to bear and bearing it can cause a deep feeling of hopelessness that blurs all vision of hope for help and improving the situation for both the Patient and the Family. A Nurse is A listening ear and not only for the client but for the family. There are a lot of fears that can be put to rest when they are voiced and appropriate and helpful solutions are presented. A nurse is A Client Advocate who will speak up and seek out help that the client or family may not know how to or be unable to themselves. When many fears have been put to rest by being able to talk them out with the Nurse and Other members of the Palliative team then the client and family will have a better sense of being in control of the process a little better and are then able to make healthier and more beneficial decisions for their care. A Client who is unable to speak for themselves is often spoken for by the family member. They may not be reading the signs that the patient may be giving non-verbally. The Nurse can come along side the Family member and help them become more aware of how to assess the needs and manage comfort levels in a safe and healthy way. Speaking the truth in kindness is a difficult thing to do. But as the Patient is priority the nurse takes this responsibility and does her best to respectfully bring to awareness the needs. She helps set up a Plan with the Doctors, Case managers and many other valued members of the health team. Often a Spouse will try to take a lot of the load on themselves and they often get burnt out and put themselves at risk of physical and emotional exhaustion. There are many Palliative resources that can alleviate the stress and help improve both client and Family members safety. For example and older woman trying to help her palliative husband to the bathroom is unable to support him if he would fall and the risk of them both ending up with a detrimental injury is high! The care giver in this case the wife would be of no further help if she ended up in hospital with a broken hip for example. This can be avoided with getting a helper in for transferring the client or for daily care like getting bathed etc. Helping the Client and Family become aware of the help they can get and being positive with them as much as possible Speaks Hope were things seem Hopeless! It Is always good to talk and ask as many questions as you need to. You can only get more information to help relieve your overwhelmed feelings if You are in this situation. Edward Harper is a Consultant for Nursing services and companies. Writing for various health sites such as [http://www.tscarehouse.org] http://www.tscarehouse.org and many other on and offline medical organizations. Marriage Blues - Who Is Responsible?
By Vanshika Anand We have two sets of activities to perform. First set of activities are drinking, eating, bathing and sleeping etc. and in the second set of activities there are earning, managing married life, bringing up children, bringing balance between professional and personal life etc. When we are very small we depend completely on our parents and elders for the completion of these first kinds of activities but as we grow up we take charge of these activities and start perfuming them independently. For the completion of second kinds of activities we too depend on others but the ratio of dependence decreases. Now we are more responsible for the completion or non completion of these activities but ironically we do not understand it and take charge of fulfilling these activities ourselves like we take in completing the first kind of activities. We expect others to perform it for us. You may have seen husband and wife quarrelling. A husband criticises her wifes mother for interfering in their life while a wife blames her husbands mother for not letting them enjoy their life. You may also have seen parents holding their childs progress card and accusing each other for their childs poor performance. A mother angrily says that father does not spare efficient time for the child whereas father speaks clearly that mother wastes her time in watching television or gossiping with her friends in spite of teaching the child. In both the cases nobody is ready to take the responsibility for the negative. In the first case a husband does not try to give such a friendly and loving attitude to his wife that she herself does not feel the need to talk to her mother regarding their personal life. And a wife also does not bother to have a look on her own attitude and make a strategy so that both of them live happily and peacefully. In the second case father does not try to think to give more time to the child for improvement and mother also does not accept that she needs to be more attentive towards child. In spite of focusing on their own negatives they concentrate on others. Here the actual problem lies. If this problem is not understood and solved it causes emotional and physical disturbances and illness. Sometimes it also causes temporary or permanent break-up. So take it seriously and learn to hold yourself responsible for your responsibilities. It will lead you to happy and contented life. Famous Indian Writer and Teacher

Discover the Only Way You Can Get a Loan Today Without a Credit Check
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Vernita_Sherman]Vernita Sherman Are you short on cash and need money today? Are you looking for a way to receive some extra cash without the hassle of leaving your home and finding someone who will give you a loan? Would you like to get some extra cash without worrying about your credit being checked? If the answer is yes to any of these questions, then the answer to your problem is getting a cash advance loan. Cash Advance loans, also known as Payday Loans, are the quickest, easiest and most convenient hassle free way of getting money into your bank account right away. Payday loans/cash advances are small short term loans made by finance companies, check cashers, and banks that are designed to give you enough money to hold you over until your next payday. Cash advance providers will give you a loan of up to $1000. By getting a cash advance you will have no problem paying off unexpected expenses. As you sit there and read every word of this article you probably are thinking back to the times throughout your life where you needed money for an emergency or to pay a bill, but your payday was a week or so away. You would say to yourself, Why couldnt this situation have happened next week when I get paid? Your credit cards were maxed out; you had already borrowed money from your friends and family for other things, so the only other option you had was to get a loan. The thing is you didnt need a big time personal loan; you just needed a few hundred dollars to last you until your next payday. Getting a cash advance/payday loan is the only way to get through these types of situations without any frustration; and the best thing about this type of loan is that these lenders give you money without even running a credit history check. Heres how cash advance/payday loans work: Usually, a borrower fills out an online application and faxes over banking information (a personal check and a bank statement), proof of income documents (paycheck stub), and some form of identification to the lender. Once the lender approves a borrowers application (usually within an hour) the lender will electronically deposit the amount borrowed into the borrowers checking account (The money usually posts the next day with most banks). On the borrowers due date, the amount borrowed plus the finance charge is automatically withdrawn from the borrowers checking account. Most lenders will save your information on file so when you apply for a new loan, you will not have to fax over any documents (There are many lenders now that do not even require you to fax over documents anymore). If you are not able to pay the lender back on the due date, most lenders will allow you the opportunity to renew your loan. What makes online cash advance providers better than the ones up the street from you? The problem with the lenders around the corner is the inconvenience of driving to the loan office to get the check, waiting for them to finish processing someone elses loan, then driving to your bank to deposit the check. You also need to have something of value as your collateral before they will give you a loan. Cash advance providers online are faster, more convenient, have lower fees, and your job is your collateral. This article was written by Vernita Sherman of QVM Cash Directory. Wait! Is He the Right Choice For a Lover
By Donald A "The Danger in being a concubine" Most girls in a relationship have chosen to be substitutes rather
than main girlfriends. Some of them I have spoken to say that
the men whom they are involved with are not too demanding and
can take care of their needs better than some guys would if
they were with them. Some say they hope to dethrone the main
girlfriend and take the position. A girl who is in such a relationship should know that she is not
safe as she's just on a cliffhanger, it's easier for her to fall
off than for the main girlfriend to be sent away. Most of you girls believe that one day, it would be your turn
to be the main lover but you are wrong. Out of 10 of such
relationships, only 1 of it actually happens, so the risk is
greater than the gain and I don't see any reason why one should
get involved in such a fruitless relationship. I have seen many men who are involved in a romantic relationship
actually deviate or stray and flirt with other girls and in the
end, they always returned to their original girlfriends rather than
the ones they flirted with. Girls, you are at a greater risk of
loosing than winning so STOP that dangerous game NOW! People who flirt continuously, it's being shown that they do
suffer from a complex either at present or in the past and use
this medium to show that they are sexier and hotter than any other
and can get any man of their dreams. This feeling of inferiority
has gotten a lot of people into trouble and the irony of it all
is that it can be cured within a twinkle of an eye. Wouldn't you be interested in knowing how it could be cured?
Have you evaluated your life and seen where it is that you
went wrong? Have you being nursing the idea of stealing another
girls man? I can assure you that if you do steal another girl's
man, that same man would be stolen from you and there's nothing
you can do to stop it. Have you really thought of getting a "fresh man" of your choice?
The one you could be proud of and showcase? Do you know how many
men out there really need you and would want to do anything to have
you? Did you look across the window this morning to see them?
if you look CAREFULLY, I am assuring you this, you would SEE! Take sometime to evaluate your life, evaluate the people around
you and make a careful selection. There are lovely guys in your
work place, the church, social gatherings, friends' brothers,
so many of them to choose from, all you need now is to say this
is whom I want and he would be yours after doing the necessary
things to woo him over. Please be careful when wooing him so it
doesn't seem as though you're so desperate, he'll either run
away or just use and dump you. So girl, play it SMART! With this, I know you have a start in restructuring
your love life and take it to any level you choose to, the
choice is yours. GOOD LUCK! Donald A.

The Wonderful World of Peanuts
By Lara Velez HISTORY Before I begin with the history of peanuts you should probably know that the peanut is not a nut. The "pea"nut is actually more closely related to the pea. It is a member of the legumes family. Also, peanuts do not grow in trees like nuts do. They grow on the ground. They start out as flowers, and eventually wind up burrowing underground. Under ground is where they become a delicious peanut. OK - so where did these little guys come from you ask? Well, they are thought to have originated in South America...possibly Brazil or Peru. When the Portuguese began to explore "The New World," they took peanuts back home with them. Portuguese traders took them as far as Asia and Africa. In the United States, peanuts became popular during the Civil War. Then around the 1900's many mechanical devices were invented to help with the processing of peanuts. As a result their popularity increased even more. Speaking of inventions...George Washington Carver invented over 300 uses for the peanut, including; medicine, ink, soap, shampoo, ice-cream, and axle grease. Today, peanuts are eaten all over the world. They have become a huge money making industry. In the United States alone they contribute well over 4 billion dollars yearly to the economy PEANUT TRIVIA Americans consume 700 million pounds or 3.3 pounds per person, of peanut butter per year.that's enough to coat the floor of the Grand Canyon. To enhance the flavor of a cola drink, Southerners put peanuts into the bottle. There are approximately 810 peanuts in an 18 oz. jar of peanut butter. The peanut is unusual because it flowers above the ground, but fruits below the ground. Peanut oil has a very high smoking point. This allows peanut oil to be heated to a higher temperature than most oils, making it an excellent choice for frying. Since peanuts are a legume, they reduce the need for additional fertilizers as they return nitrogen to the soil as they grow. HEALTH BENEFITS Peanuts are packed full of healthy stuff, including; antioxidants, niacin,
Vitamin E, monounsaturated fat, bioflavnoids, protein, and they have more resveratrol than grapes (which lowers LDL - aka "bad cholesterol") That's not all...Some medical researchers say that they lower the risk of heart disease and provide protection from some types of cancer (colon, prostate, and breast). Well, as you can see there are some great reasons to eat peanuts...as if the fact that they are delicious isn't enough. THE DARK SIDE Peanut proteins can act as powerful allergens, even in tiny amounts. That is why Peanut allergies are the most common cause of death by food in the United States. Some people can have a ruthless reaction just for inhaling the scent of a peanut. People can die from very small amounts. So, if your allergic to peanuts...or think you could be...don't risk even going near them. You can substitute almonds or any nut for any of the recipes below. For the cookies...you'll have to make your own 'nut butter. YUMMY...PEANUTTY RECIPES: CREAMY PEANUT BUTTER Put 2 cups of peanuts in a blender and blend until smooth. Loans and Credit Cards - and Bankruptcy
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Michael_Challiner]Michael Challiner Not so very long ago the moral climate in this country was very different. People had more time for each other, and more time to examine and compare their own moral standards with others. One of the many results of this was an almost unspoken pride in making your own way through life without looking for handouts from the state or elsewhere. This resulted in a high degree of poverty in the working classes and the unemployed with their determination to be in debt to no one, but also a resolve in the so-called middle and upper classes to avoid financial embarrassment. The lowest point of this loss of face was a declaration of bankruptcy the shame which this carried with it is difficult to comprehend nowadays, but it was very real then. People lived (often very precariously) within their means and a failed business venture was a usual reason for total loss of credit. Credit even that word has undergone a subtle change of meaning. It used to be a means for businessmen to raise funds for expansion or a new venture, and was a word with very limited use outside the business world. Nowadays credit is more often taken to mean the opportunities for individuals to spend more than they earn and to live beyond their means, with a concomitant increase in the numbers declaring bankruptcy. This situation however seems to have lost its aura of shame, and instead has become, whilst not quite a badge of pride, at least an apparently easy way out of a crisis of ones own making. In 2005 there were almost 70,000 individuals declared bankrupt in England and Wales; the trend would seem to indicate that the figure for 2006 will exceed 100,000. This has resulted in an explosion in bad debts to a current average in the UK of over 3000 per person a staggering total of over 190 billion. High street banks report that they are being particularly hard hit. Why so many? There are two major factors involved the availability and the variety. Credit is now very readily obtained, with some financial institutions positively anxious to lend sums of money which are at best loosely related to the borrowers income. The increased variety is provided in the form of debit and credit cards, mortgages, unsecured loans and schemes such as consolidation agreements. A further problem is the refusal by many people to see the problems they are facing and to deal with them whilst there is yet time. They tend to close their eyes and hope it will all work out, which to some extent it does by a declaration of bankruptcy! This can result in loss of their home and most of their possessions and, doubtless in many cases, the break up of their family. One improvement for bankrupts is in the increased cost of housing which can mean that they have sufficient assets to pay their debts but do not necessarily have to sell the property, despite their lack of available funds. Does the problem start in schools? Not because pupils are going bankrupt, but because proper education in financial matters is virtually non-existent. This really would be useful education learning about the costs of credit, how to use credit cards responsibly, how to say no to that unrepeatable bargain, how to operate a bank account etc. All of which would be remarkably useful information in the credit crazy 21st century. In addition, people need to know the cost of loss of control over their financial affairs. That administrators will take control of all their financial decision making, and that there could be criminal charges for irregularities. That restrictions on their actions can continue for up to 15 years after discharge. Perhaps most telling, the information that an administrator will for their services, take a 15% levy on all income received by the bankrupt person. This at the time when for the bankrupt every penny will count as never before. Bankruptcy Restriction Orders are likely to be served on around 10% of bankrupts who are deemed to have been reckless in their move into debt, and are to be made very much aware that the condition is self-inflicted. A restriction order operates for up to 15 years, and prevents trading under a different name or acting as a company director, and makes credit virtually unobtainable.
